FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


ELIGIBILITY:
I am a foreign national working in the United States. Am I still eligible to receive a Foundation Research Grant?
Yes, regardless of your nationality, you are eligible to receive a Foundation Research Grant as long as you train, practice and conduct research in the United States.

I have previously received a Foundation Research Grant. Am I eligible to serve as a co-investigator on an application?
Yes, past grant recipients are eligible to serve as co-investigator; however, they are not eligible to apply as primary investigators unless they received their grant as a resident or fellow.

I am not a full faculty member. Am I still eligible to apply for a grant?
Yes, instructors, associate professors and assistant professors are all eligible to apply for Foundation grants so long as they are not full professors.

Are non-physician PhDs eligible to apply for a grant?
Yes, provided they have a co-sponsor who is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who is an SGO member.

Can an individual serve as a co-investigator for more than one applicant?
Yes, an individual may be the co-investigator for more than one grant.

If I already have a Career Development Award from a different source, am I eligible for this award?
Yes.

Are pathologists with a specialty in GYN pathology eligible to apply for a grant?
Yes.


APPLICATION:
Do I need to include a cover letter with my application?
No, the application itself serves as the cover letter.

Do I need to send in a full application initially?
No, abstracts are due by Sep 8, 2023. If invited to submit a full proposal, it will be due Dec 8, 2023.

Do I need to submit letters of support along with my full grant application?
Yes, at least one. No more than three (3) letters of support should be included.

Why do I need to include my institution’s federal identification number?
All grant monies are made payable in a check to the recipient’s institution. The Foundation is responsible for submitting the institution’s federal identification number for tax purposes at the end of the year.

Do I apply for a specific grant?
No, all applications will be considered for all grants they are eligible for.

Do I need to include biosketches for co-collaborators?
No.

Is there a preferred format for biosketches?
The NIH biosketch format is preferred.

What are the font and margin guidelines for documents submitted?
12pt Times New Roman or Arial font with 1/2 inch margins

Are references included in the five page count for the Description of Research document?
No, references do not contribute to the five page count but should be included in the document.

Should a bibliography be submitted separately from the Description of Research document?
Yes, a bibliography should be submitted as a separate supplemental document.


BUDGET:
What constitutes indirect costs as referenced in the note on the detailed budget form? 
Indirect costs include, but are not limited to: administrative costs of the university and the usual criteria established for grant overhead or other costs, such as laboratory space.

Indirect costs can be included to a max of 10% of the total budget. A majority of the grant monies must be devoted to the active research project.

How much should the budget reflect?
The budget should reflect the amount of the grant you are applying for.

Can I include salary support as part of my research budget?
Yes, please include the name, role, % of effort on project, institution base salary, fringe benefits, and amount of salary requested for each person.

Maximum of 10% of effort per investigator/co-investigator can be budgeted for personnel costs

Mentor personnel costs maximum is capped at 5%. (Not allowed for gyn-onc fellows).

Should I include fringe percentages in my requested salary?
Yes.

Am I able to use funds to pay a consultant?
Yes, provide justification.

Are subcontracts to community partners allowed?
Yes, provide justification.

Can I use funds for presentation, travel, and publication fees?
Funds can be used for publication fees at a max of $2,500. Travel expenses are allowed in the budget, so long as they're reasonable.
